Project Indie - Celebrating Indie Authors

Hi, I'm Abigail Lane, and I want to talk to you a little bit about my business, Project Indie. Project Indie is a subscription book box that I started at the end of 2020. Though I had to take a couple of months off, it is back up and I am so excited. I had to take a couple of months off for my wedding and move into a new house, but now I get to devote even more time to it because I have this amazing space to share with you all.

So, I just wanted to make my first podcast video, and blog to introduce you to me and my business and what the goals of this business are. So I made Project Indie about a year after I self-published my own book. I am a self published author of a collection of short stories, and the reason that I came up with Project Indie was because I saw how hard it was as a self-published author without a big budget to get the marketing and the amount of readers and outreach that I really wanted to get that you get when you publish through a big publishing company.

Because of this, I wanted to create a platform where we, as readers and writers alike, can celebrate indie authors and support small authors and give them the recognition and celebration that they deserve. Each box comes with the indie book, a letter from the author, three to five themed goodies, and a themed bag. Boxes are on the way. That's another really exciting announcement. Though the subscription base is not set up yet, it will be set up within the next month. So, when you sign up for Project Indie, you will  be subscribed, like you would be with any other subscription book box.

This is now the fifth box that is going to be featured, so I want to introduce you to some of the books that have been featured.  The first book that was featured was mine, 'Don't Show, Don't Tell: A Collection of Short Stories.' Then, there was 'Alex Six' by an amazing author named Vince Taplin. Next was 'Focus' by an amazing author named Naomi Charles and finally, there was a poetry book called 'Hueman' by Amber C. Borden. This month's indie book is 'Dylan McFinn and the Sea Serpent's Fury' by Liam Jenkins and that is on sale now until April 31st.

Liam Jenkins actually just did an Instagram takeover on my Instagram page (@project.indie) if you want to check him out and see what he had to say about his book. His book is on sale from April 15th to April 31st, so get it while you can! If you want to get your hands on the April book, I will just give you one hint, it's a very cozy, relaxing book box.

Overall, I just wanted to talk about my mission and introduce myself. I really have hope to grow this business. I hope to get a lot more readers and just create a community. This month with 'Dylan McFinn and the Sea Serpent's Fury,' I am going to be starting a book club. So whoever has this book, whoever buys the book box, we're going to read each chapter by chapter and talk about it and just celebrate Liam Jenkins as a whole.

As a whole, I have a lot of indie authors that are interested. I have a lot of indie authors on the calendar that I am so excited to collaborate with and share with you all. So, if you are a fan of books, you like supporting small businesses, and you love supporting small authors that deserve that recognition Project Indie is  the book box for you.

You can follow me on TikTok (@project.indie.bookbox), Instagram (@project.indie), YouTube (Project Indie Book Box), and Facebook (Project Indie Book Box).

If you are interested in collaborating as an indie author, you can email me at and if you are interested in more information, I answer all my Instagram DM's and all of my emails, so if you want to get in touch with me or ask me more about the business, I would love to hear from you all.

You can watch the video version of this blog on my YouTube channel or listen to the Podcast version on any Podcast streaming service (coming soon).

As a final note, I have some more exciting news. I am going to do a Zoom interview with Liam Jenkins,  this month's author, and that will be the next podcast up on my YouTube channel or blog up on my website, so stay tuned for that. Thanks for tuning in today. I hope to see you next time!

Aparna Verma

Hi there,

My name is Aparna Verma, and I’m the author of The Boy with Fire, an adult SFF novel about an ex-assassin, an heir, and a tyrant struggling for power when an ancient prophecy threatens to destroy their world. It’s a South Asian-inspired fantasy that blends themes of Indian mythology, imperialism, religion, and identity. My book is going to be published with New Degree Press on August 31, 2021. I am reaching out to you to collaborate on a book box with your company and The Boy with Fire.

The Boy with Fire hit #1 on UK NetGalley and #4 fantasy title on US NetGalley. The early reviews have been spectacular so far, with readers already creating Tiktoks, Spotify playlists, cosplays, fan art, Pinterest boards, YouTube videos, and more. #TheBoywithFire alone has over 455,000 views on TikTok. There is a strong fandom already, even though the book hasn’t even come out!

I believe my book’s early success is due to 1) the themes of the novel and 2) BIPOC representation. Early readers have commended the book for celebrating South Asian culture. There are relatively few South Asian high fantasy books, but The Boy with Fire is slowly changing that. Readers, in reviews and personal messages, have detailed how they finally feel represented in fantasy.

I would love to send you an e-ARC if you’d like to take an early look at the book. I think your audience will also enjoy The Boy with Fire.

Please let me know if you are interested. I look forward to hearing from you.
